Presentation: An Intervention
Reclaiming Thousands Of Hours By Going From Data-Dump To Info-lean
"We're being data-driven crazy!"
1,875 hours per month spent by just 45 people. In one month, one year's worth of time being spent! These are the results of a recent survey of a famous consumer package goods company. What were we measuring? The time spent creating business presentations. These were not specialists. Their job functions were from across the board of possibilities. The same survey revealed that most people thought they were wasting vast amounts of time; "We've gone from data-driven to data-driven crazy."
Beyond training – A comprehensive "systems" approach
The control of info-besity requires a conscious information policy that's the accepted by the entire organization. We'll help you do just that, plus train everyone on how to create action based presentations that eliminate thousands of wasted hours. This is culture change that must be modeled from the top down.
Step One – Assess the current situation
We administer a survey to generate insight about the extent of the problem and its root causes. This helps formulate solutions to the group's needs and the organization's culture.
Step Two – Creating the info-lean culture
Meeting with team leaders to define the best practices for presentation creation. Decisions include:
- What constitutes documentation vs. presentation.
- Who is the owner of each presentation – eliminating the too many cooks syndrome.
- For every presentation what is O.I.L. - Optimum Information Level?
- Methods for establishing top down coaching practices – co-creating first drafts etc.
Step Three – Provide individual skill training
The entire team attends our 2 day Presentation Story Basics training. Learning will include:
- How to cut prep time by double digits
- The difference between presentation and documentation
- Creating slides that move the story – not slow down the audience
- How to create an action-based story out of any material every time
