The Secret Cost Of Keeping A Secret
She had managed to keep her secret for years. Yes, she had climbed to the top of her profession in a Fortune 100 food company, and yet, in all those years, none of her colleagues ever suspected the truth.
But keeping a secret came with a price. She was haunted by feelings of guilt, shame, and a foreboding expectation that someone was going to find out: the ultimate humiliation.
An Invitation Leads To Confrontation
Then it happened. She was asked to speak to 250 of her colleagues at a prestigious industry event. She couldnąt say no, but she dreaded saying yes.
That was the day she decided not to run away anymore. She would finally face the fear of presentation.
FEAR = Face Everything And Recover
All feelings start with beliefs. So we started our work together
by examining her ideas about the purpose of her presentation. This
was accomplished in two ways: intellectually through discussion
and emotionally through exercises. This took courage.
Then we constructed an action-based story complete with visuals and other multimedia elements. Then we rehearsed three and only three times. We were aiming for freedom of expression, not the prison of obsession.
